Serbia's Sport Vision cleared to take over the Czech JD Sports and Sizeer stores

The Czech competition authority has cleared BDS SPORT CZ — part of Serbia's Sport Vision group, held through BDS Sport Group in Cyprus — to acquire control of Marketing Investment Group Czech. The clearance is unconditional and the decision is final. MIG Czech runs the JD Sports and Sizeer stores in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Liberec and other cities, plus the jdsports.cz and sizeer.cz e-shops; the authority notes that MIG Czech sits under Poland's Marketing Investment Group, which in turn belongs to a group headed by JD Sports Fashion Plc. The buyer already trades in more than 25 Czech cities through Sport Vision, A3 Sport and Buzz. The authority concluded the deal only slightly strengthens a mid-sized retailer that continues to face Decathlon and Sportisimo. In parallel, Slovakia's antitrust office opened proceedings on 28 August over the Slovak arm — Marketing Investment Group Slovakia, 11 stores — and invited third-party comments on 1 September. Terms were not disclosed.

Our take Clearance is not closing, and the Slovak file is still open — which is the shape of this transaction generally: a regional retail network taken apart and sold country by country, so each national regulator sets its own clock. That structure trades speed for certainty on the sell side, and on the buy side it means paying for a footprint that can only be assembled in sequence. Worth watching as the remaining national legs surface one regulator at a time.
