In a press release dated September 2026 and published on 4 September, the Romanian Competition Council announced that it is examining the transaction by which Officine Maccaferri S.p.A. of Italy intends to take over Iterchimica S.p.A. of Italy together with its subsidiaries, including Iterchimica Romania S.R.L. The authority describes Officine Maccaferri as a supplier of products and technical solutions for the geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental and civil infrastructure sectors; in Romania it is present through Maccaferri Romania S.R.L., which mainly supplies products for engineering applications, including geosynthetics, double-twisted wire mesh products, rockfall protection products and products for waste management installations, as well as certain engineering and installation services. Iterchimica is described as specialising in the manufacture and supply of additives for modifying the asphalt mixtures used in road infrastructure; in Romania the group is present through Iterchimica Romania S.R.L., which provides services and makes sales exclusively to Iterchimica. Under Competition Law no. 21/1996 the operation must be authorised by the Competition Council, which will assess whether it is compatible with a normal competitive environment and will issue a decision within the time limits set by law. Observations may be submitted to the authority within 20 days of the announcement. The transaction has not been cleared and no closing has been announced; the authority's release states no price, no turnover figures and no employee numbers.
