Plastics Romania Acquisition of control — cleared 15 Sep 2026

Existing shareholder cleared to take over Romanian plastics maker Sterk Plast

Romania's Competition Council announced on 15 September 2026 that it has authorised the transaction by which Islambay Suleyman intends to take over Sterk Plast S.R.L. Islambay Suleyman is a natural person who, prior to this transaction, already held a stake in Sterk Plast. He also holds interests in Ecofriend Recycling S.R.L., a company active in the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic waste and in the supply of recycled and regranulated raw materials. Sterk Plast produces and sells plastic articles intended mainly for household and domestic use. Following its analysis, the council found that the operation does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of it, and that there are no serious doubts as to its compatibility with a normal competitive environment. No price or financial figures appear in the announcement.

Our take A partner buying out his co-owners is one of the most common transactions in the mid-market and one of the least discussed, because it rarely makes the news. It is still a change of control, it still needed clearance here, and it still has to be priced. Note the vertical link: the buyer also owns a plastic recycling business that supplies regranulated raw material, which means he is not valuing Sterk Plast purely as a standalone manufacturer but as an outlet for his own feedstock. That asymmetry is exactly why internal buyouts are difficult to negotiate. The insider knows what the business is worth in his hands, and the selling partner usually only knows what it is worth in its own. Getting an independent read on value before that conversation starts is the whole game.
