Czech automotive supplier HAUK cleared to absorb its competitor KARSIT

The Czech competition authority has allowed SWO, controlled by automotive parts manufacturer HAUK, to take over its competitor KARSIT. The clearance was unconditional, the decision is final, and the case ran under the simplified procedure. Both companies press sheet metal, weld panel parts and assemblies, and carry out surface treatment for the automotive industry; HAUK additionally makes interior parts and assembles brake system components, while KARSIT produces seat frames. The authority found the combination raises no concerns of a substantial restriction of competition. Terms were not disclosed.

Our take Two tier-2 metal-forming suppliers combining is what consolidation looks like when European OEM volumes stay soft — scale is close to the only lever left when the customer sets the price. The simplified procedure and the absence of any published turnover figures say something useful too: deals this size clear quietly, and owners in the segment often learn that a competitor sold only after it is done.
