Czech regulator clears AL INVEST (MTX Group) to acquire aluminium recycler ALCO

On 9 October 2026 the Czech competition authority ÚOHS announced that it had cleared, without conditions and in a simplified procedure, the acquisition of ALCO by AL INVEST; the decision is final. ALCO, based in the Bruntál region, buys, sorts and processes aluminium waste and produces briquettes, granulates, powders and ingots from recycled aluminium. The cleared transaction also covers L.K.E.-Pivovarská, owned by the same owner, which the authority says is not active on any market. AL INVEST is part of the group headed by MTX Group a.s. and makes aluminium products — mainly aluminium packaging and foils, and rolled semi-finished products such as sheets, strips and plates used in the automotive, construction and printing industries. The MTX group is also active in metal purchasing and trading, automated machines and production lines, and coal processing and coke production. The seller and the price were not disclosed.

Our take A rolling-mill group buying a scrap-aluminium recycler is a move upstream into its own input: recycled aluminium is cheaper in energy than primary metal, and owning the processor secures supply and margin. ÚOHS saw no competition issue, which is typical when the buyer mostly consumes what the target produces. In recycling and secondary raw materials, the natural buyers are the large downstream users of the material, not only other recyclers.
